AN ARTIST'S LIFE FOR ME
I'd like to give you a little insight into what it's like to be an independent Artist today...
... I'd love to be able to tell you I spend my days painting and drawing endlessly and all my work sells itself - that I spend hours talking to other creatives about art, the philosophy of life and impart my wisdom on the world. All whilst sitting in coffee shops or in a circle in a meadow on a tie dye blanket with a flower in my hair - but that's the romanticised version of an Artist's life - the reality is I have to hustle. Every. Single. Day.
And hustle hard I do! Usually in a baggy t-shirt and leggings with messy hair! I spend more time at a screen than I do at a canvas. To be able to be an Artist, I have to remember it's a business. And business never sleeps.
Shut away in the business bubble means I only get to impart my wisdom and my views on the world when I post about my work. And even then, its usually only the picture that accompanies it that gets any attention 😂
The rule of thumb with social media is that you should be posting every day, and don't forget to research hashtags and use the right gifs and location tags on stories. Networking. Uploading. Chasing client payments. Making content. Planning new work. Grid style. Don't fuck up your aesthetic. Blogging. Updating my online shop.
Time goes so quickly and you can lose sight of how much you've actually done. Especially as an Artist, as we don't have set hours, we end up with lots of beautiful pictures and sometimes it's overlooked at how long has been taken to do what we do.
Staring at a screen, doing accounts and invoices etc can sometimes make you forget you are an Artist. But it has to be done in order for you to continue to be one.
So I'll leave you with the knowledge that I do work really hard for my Art, for you and for me.
