Inspired by the words of Paul Klee, Lois enjoys taking her pen for a walk. She has created a detailed and mesmerising image based on the lines of fingerprints in her favourite medium, fineline pen.
A note from the Artist about this piece:
With this piece I am exploring the idea behind one’s identity and how we are identified. We are defined biologically through our DNA and fingerprints. Exploring with lines is an important part of my artistic process. So I set upon looking at my own lines on my hands and became mesmerised by the lines that make up my fingerprints. The tiny swirls and mazes of lines right at our fingertips. We as humans are pigeonholed, categorised and put into boxes by others everyday. By breaking the lines up as I travelled across the paper I intend to remind you that you are so much more. I don’t want you to forget you are built of more. You are your thoughts, feelings, hobbies, interests, hair style, clothing choices. You may have piercings or tattoos. You may have scars, external and internal. You are your beliefs and your convictions. Your history, your experiences and your future all count towards who you are. We are more than DNA and fingerprints. So much more.
So, I ask you, how are you identifiable?
