This detailed study of a seashell by Leicestershire Artist Lois Pedley is a beautiful example of attention to detail in her work. Thousands of dots from Lois’ pen have formed this monochrome drawing of one of the many seashells she has found on her beach combing adventures.

A note from the Artist about this piece:

I spent my formative years living in a seaside town. Long days spent collecting shells in my bucket. Feeling a pull to the sea that I wouldn't understand until years later.

I return to the beach, my home, as often as I can. I collect my treasures still, even now at 40, its my favourite past time. When I am away from the sea, I can't describe the longing I feel. It's unbearable, and heartbreaking.

Drawing my treasures, following their patterns and learning their shapes, helps to soothe that ache a little in the interim moments between me and the sea.
